Hello my fellow Genre Guardians!
For those few who still are following this blog, you may
have noticed I have not posted any type of written review or article since
February of this year. I did manage to post the last sequence of The Zombzany
Meets Blood E. Bones video, but have not added any video content since that last
one in April. The reason for my lack of posting on Guardians of the Genre is
simply that I have been busy working on other projects. I have been working on
these projects under my real name and not under the pseudonym: Fritz “Doc”
Freak. As anyone who blogs knows, using a pseudonym allows a certain amount of
creative freedom that posting under one’s real name does not. While writing as “Doc”
Freak, I initially kept in character while posting on Guardians of the Genre,
but as time went by, I found this too restricting and ended up writing in my
own voice.
These past three years posting on Guardians of the Genre have
been great fun for the most part, but writing non-fiction has never been one of
my favorite types of writing. I much prefer fiction writing, as I hope showed
in some of my descriptions of the Zombzany videos would indicate. This blog
lends itself to mostly non-fiction writing and that is why I’ve decided to move
on to other things and stop blogging on Guardians of the Genre. In case anyone
is wondering why some of the other characters on this blog cannot continue writing
on Guardians of the Genre in my absence, the simple answer is that I am all of
the characters; which include not only Fritz “Doc” Freakenstein, but Bill E.
Bones, Major Mac Maniac and Zombzany as well. The only other person to write
for this blog was my good friend, who wrote under the pseudonym Professor
Phileas Photon. Unfortunately, “Phileas” is not interested in writing on any
kind of consistent basis, so he will be unable to keep Guardians of the Genre
up and running either. The main character of all my posted videos, Zombzany the
Necromancer, was played in the videos by another good friend of mine.
Unfortunately, I have not have had contact with him for many years and have
been posting these videos in the hope that he might find them in the vastness
of cyberspace and contact me. However, that has not occurred, so I fear
Zombzany’s true “voice” will never be heard on Guardians of the Genre either.
I want to conclude this final posting by thanking all 44
followers of Guardians of the Genre and especially to the people that took the
time to comment on my various posts here. A special thank you goes to The
Sci-Fi Fanatic, with whom I have had many stimulating discussions both here and
on his blog Musings of a Sci-Fi Fanatic. I also want to thank Francisco Gonzalez
of The Film Connoisseur, John Kenneth Muir of John Kenneth Muir's Reflections
on Film/TV and Johnny Thunder of Johnny Thunder's Midnight Spook Frolic. I will
continue to upload more Zombzany videos to YouTube, so anyone who wants to

Yo, Doc! I am sorry to hear that you won't be posting in this form anymore, but completely understand when "the real world" gets in the way. Ha! Thanks for the posts over the past few years, I really dug your joint & you cats always were entertaining. Tons of fun!

ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your continued support of this blog. You were one of the first to follow GotG and back in that first year, that was a big deal. My major motivation for creating GotG was to have fun and post things (like the series of Zombzany videos) that I thought were entertaining. It's nice to know that you enjoyed these and I hope some of the other more unusual postings I've done over the past three years.
I will be uploading more new Zombzany/Doc Freakenstein videos to YouTube, as soom as I finish another progrect I'm currently involved with. When - not if - I start another blog under my own name, your blog will be one of the first I'll follow.

The logic behind your departure makes complete sense. So I fully expect you to do something less in character in a new writing outlet in the future.
I must tell you. I was cracking up because (call me naive) I did not realzie you were all of these characters. I honestly thought they were some of your buds. Ha.
Anyway, some fun posts here over the years and some good tips on films I might have been reluctant to see.

ReplyDeleteNot to belittle or degrade the many other hard working bloggers on Blogger, but if more people were like you Sci-Fi Fanatic, I may have kept up working of Guardians of the Genre for much longer than I have. One of the reasons for starting GotG was to make the virtual acquaintance of like-minded genre fans and share my thoughts with them through this blog. You, along with a handful of others, contributed comments to my posts here with welcome consistency and you also took the time to respond to every comment on your own blog. I know what that means in regards to a time commitment, because I tried to do this myself. So I really appreciated all your comments here and on your blog.
I’m glad I was able to voice the four different characters that I wrote (Fritz “Doc” Freakenstein, Bill E. Bones, Major Mac Maniac and Zombzany) with enough individual personality, to create the illusion that they were all written by different people. Fritz (my main character and the one I portrayed the most in the videos) was the easiest to write and Bones wasn’t too difficult either (I voiced him in the videos). Maniac’s Texas drawl was difficult to write, but sure fun to play on the videos. I wrote 80% of the scripts for the Zombzany videos over the 12 years that we made them, so I had all the characters voices down in my pretty well. While shooting the videos was a very collaborative effort, for which I can’t thank my two good friends enough, the eventual back-story and character development ended up being my responsibility. One day, I do hope to do something creatively with Zombzany, Fritz and the gang.
