I appreciate your “2¢” very much indeed.

I agree that Peter/Spider-man was a bit less quippy in the final act of the film, but since he had just lost his Uncle Ben in the previous act I think his slightly more emotive state is understandable.

I agree that as a rule, “reboots” should be done sparingly. How long is long enough, in regard to reboots, is perhaps a question of personal taste. For anyone older than a teenager, I think a reboot every twenty years would seem adequate. Unfortunately, Hollywood is gearing their big bucks at the people under twenty and assumes that anything less than ten years old is something they are not familiar with. So be prepared for more reboots. I think Batman is going to get a reboot even sooner than the five years it took Spider-man to be rebooted. Warner Bros. needs a new Batman for their JLA (scheduled for 2015) film and I would not be surprised to see a new Batman reboot out just before or after that film.

I’m not sure that James Bond recast reboot is a good comparison. James Bond doesn't really have an “origin” per se. So there really isn't a need to go over again what doesn't exist in that film series. Remakes are very similar to reboots and Hollywood has been making those since the days of silent films. I don’t mind a remake or a reboot, as long as it is entertaining and well done. Fortunately, for me at least, The Amazing Spider-man was both of these.

Thank you for the comments, JM!
Fritz "Doc" Freakensteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13209589620766485745noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5797284234078302183.post-89649808737272244282012-11-28T12:58:52.801-05:002012-11-28T12:58:52.801-05:00Just watched this recently, and I thought it was a...Just watched this recently, and I thought it was an enjoyable (though another reboot was unneeded) entry.

I, too, thought it was a better portrayal of Spider-Man than in the previous films--though Peter Parker was a bit too "emo" for me. I liked that Spider-Man was quippy, as you said, but it seemed like that aspect of his character kind of dissipated toward the end of the film.

I just hope that the studio sticks with this continuity and doesn't do yet another reboot in a few years.

Filmmakers need to realize that you don't need to start the story over from scratch every time you recast the lead. Look how many different people have been cast as James Bond. We don't start at the beginning each and every time.

Just my $0.02,
--J/MetroAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
